Property Information for 138 Dungannon Lane,Howardsville, VA 24562

Property Description

Dungannon is situated on the south bank of the historic James River in Buckingham County, Virginia near Howardsville. Dungannon contains approximately 472 acres in gross by survey and has an excellent diversity of geography including 98.5 acres of fertile lowgrounds with approximately 5,120 linear feet of frontage on the James River, 127.4 acres of upland pasturelands and hayfields, 9.4 acre housesite with mature landscaping & nice pond and approximately 236.7 acres of timberland.

Dungannon was built in 1898 by Mrs. Mary Bruns on land which had been given to her by her father, General T. M. Logan. It is believed that the plan of the house was taken from the ancestral Logan home in Scotland. The exterior is of stone which was quarried on the place. A round tower is on one corner of the house. Mr. Bruns was a lawyer and used the first floor of the tower for his office. The entire inside walls of the house are paneled; the downstairs in oak and the upstairs in pine. The workmanship on the house is of excellent craftsmanship throughout.

A unique system of heating supplemented the heat from huge fireplaces in each room. Excess heat was piped from an outside kitchen into the house. Between the kitchen and the house was a masonry structure which supported a water tank that supplied water by gravity. The main floor has large sliding doors which open to create room for large parties. Mrs. Bruns is said to have sent buggies to bring neighbors to those parties.

Mr. and Mrs Beattie acquired the property in 1953 and the property is still currently under the ownership of the Beattie family. Dungannon is a magnificent country estate property and offers an array of uses including country river estate, recreational sporting estate, cattle and/or crop farm. Dungannon is also an ideal cadidate for a conservation easement and/or stream and wetland mitigation bank.

Dungannon is conveniently located in close proximity to Scottsville, Charlottesville and Ricmond.

Price: $1,750,000.
